Dell 1320c No Red PHD Fix
I had a co-worker call me today and tell me that their Dell 1320c Color Laser printer was printing everything but red. They had even replaced the toner cartridges and it was still not working right. Example print:
After doing a little research and contacting Dell support, I narrow it down to the PHD or Print Head Device. Dell support says this typically lasts to around 24k prints and we're only sitting at 14k! -_- Of course it is out of warranty and the part costs like $168. Not cool. I decide the worst thing I can do is completely break it so I grab my favorite tools for this kind of job and start tearing it apart!
The first thing I notice on this thing is that the little springy unit on the magenta connector is stuck backwards, unlike the other 4 which are covering their units. I figure this is the best place to start and completely clean it all around with the alcohol until the spring works correctly.
These pictures are after the fact I've got it working, but I cleaned all that toner and blasted EVERYTHING with air until the room had toner all over it. After fully cleaning it all, I decided to blast the unit with as much red as possible to try and get it flowing again. I opened Paint and just created a big red field and started printing it over and over again.
Finally after about 20 prints..
Tada! We have success! This will probably work with other printers of various makes and models, give it a try! Full gallery: http://nos-computers.com/1320cFix
